This Website is intended to be a showcase for all aspects of the Liverpool-Greek community,
including the charity The Liverpool Greek Society, The Greek School, as well as The Church of St Nicholas.
We also hope to provide some insight into the history of immigration of Greek and Cypriot families to Liverpool,
and the ways in which their contributions have enhanced the heritage of the city.
The creation of the Society was sparked by an informal meeting over dinner in a Greek restaurant in 1993.
The conversation soon turned into a discussion about the best ways to promote the Greek culture, traditions,
language and history both to the Greek community and to the cosmopolitan city of Liverpool. These ideas
blossomed and the Liverpool Greek Society has gone from strength to strength, achieving charitable status
on June 6th 1996.
The Liverpool Greek Society has since turned it’s attentions to building a much
needed Greek Community Centre, which would also incorporate a permanent base for
the Greek School of St. Nicholas. The Community Centre would be a place for people
to get together and socialise, act as a venue for a variety of Greek functions,
and provide a visible presence for the community in its proposed location of Toxteth.
It would also provide an opportunity for those outside of the community to learn
about everything Greek culture has to offer and demonstrate with bricks and mortar
the strength and solidity of the Greek population in Liverpool.
Through various fundraising activities we are slowly reaching our aims and hope
that by having taken the first step of finding out about our Charity, visitors to
this site will be inspired to help us achieve our vision of a real base for the
Liverpool-Greek community.
We hope you find our site informative and easy to navigate. If you have any feedback
